Two Titusville Fire Department members became the first personnel in 37 years to be awarded the Medal of Honor when they were honored at a Titusville City Council meeting on July 25 at City Hall. Lieutenant Dave Neeld and driver/operator Billy Wiegert received the medals after they rescued two couples and three dogs from rising floodwaters while off-duty in New Smyrna Beach. The flooding was caused by Hurricane Ian on Sept. 29, according to a memo from TFD Chief John Hustoles, sent through a spokesperson via e-mail to Hometown News.
